SAM FENDER GIG
On Tuesday we saw something none of us expected to see in the UK this year; a live event!Sponsored by Virgin Money, the UK’s first socially distanced live event launched with a soldout show from indie rock artist Sam Fender. Over the next twenty-six days, artists frommusicians, comedians and even drag queens will perform at the Unity Arena event locatedat Newcastle Racecourse, Gosforth Park.
Other acts include Ronan Keating, The Libertines and Supergrass as well as DJ PatrickTopping and comedians Jimmy Carr and Bill Bailey. Not to mention Klub Kids will be hostinga show with the drag queen stars of RuPaul’s Drag Race. So you can’t say there isn’tsomething for everyone!
The event has been carefully curated by SSD Concerts who are one of the UK’s largestindependent live events promoters based in the North East of the country. SSD Concertsboss, Steve Davis, spoke with Music Week ahead of the launch this week about themeticulous organisation needed to bring this event to life.
“It was [organised] in the knowledge that something had to come before venueshows could happen. We do loads of shows and festivals and we knew neither ofthem would come straight back, so we tried to come up with a hybrid that workssooner than that point. We’ve moved with the government guidelines as we’vegone along and every part of it has been a challenge.”
The website offers clear instructions to attendees about how to arrive and enjoy theexperience with ease. They have arranged a system where attendees can pre order food orplace a delivery order when on site and there will be a one-way toilet system to maintainsocial distancing regulations.
Davis added:“We’re excited to be working with artists who have the same desire to makesomething happen during difficult times for the industry and the general public.”The event will run from August 11 th –September 13 th and tickets can be purchased on theofficial website where there’s the option to purchase stand-alone tickets or drink packages.
